Libertarian Fundraising: Some History
I have recently read some disparaging remarks about the fundraising for the Barr campaign. The campaign began with an exploratory committee in April and the last reports are for July. The total raised is about $600,000. On average, the campaign has raised $150,000 each month. If the campaign continues at this rate, it would raise [...]
Is a Libertarian a “True Conservative?”
Is a libertarian a “true conservative?” Rep. Barr sometimes suggests that this is true. Is he correct? Well, yes… but.. no…. Libertarian might better be described as “true” liberal. But, probably it is best to understand libertarian as being neither left nor right.. neither conservative nor liberal.
Is a libertarian a type of conservative? Perhaps. The [...]
The Bailout
Bob Barr rejects the Bush administration’s taxpayer bailout of the housing industry. This bill includes provisions to reward Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac for their disastrous, risky strategies.
While Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have used the vague promises of government support to borrow at lower interest rates and so funnel more money into home mortgages [...]
Budget Cuts and the National Sales Tax
When Bob Barr began his campaign for President, he insisted that job one is to get control of government spending. Obama promises all sorts of new government “investment.” (Are there really people who are fooled by using the term “investment” to describe spending even more on wasteful government programs?) McCain proposes nothing more than reducing the [...]
Write a Letter to the Editor!
Not all Americans are “online.” And, even those of us who are online, sometimes read the local newspaper. Many of those people who read the local newspaper read letters to the editor. Why not write one in support of Bob Barr?
My approach is to wait until there is a relevant issue in the news. Better [...]
Oil, Speculation, and Preemptive War
Americans are concerned about high gasoline prices. John McCain has blamed “speculators.” The only truth to this argument is that the speculators are the bearers of bad news. Not only is John McCain playing the part of the tyrrant who shoots the messenger and so will only be told what he wants to hear, it is he [...]
State Level Results from Zogby. Great News!
The recent Zogby poll shows Bob Barr receiving 6% support nationwide. This is great news, doubling the support shown in many earlier polls. State-by-state polling has been sparse, though there have been some good numbers from polls in Georgia and North Carolina. The Zogby poll goes a long way towards correcting that deficiency. There is a cool interactive map showing [...]
Zogby Polling and Libertarians
A quick search of the Zogby website shows that Zogby’s presidential polls include “libertarian” as an option along with very conservative, conservative, moderate, etc. Further, Zogby provides the option of “Libertarian” along with Republican, Democrat, and Independent.
Looking at Zogby’s press release on Barr’s recent 6% result, it appears that Barr is receiving 43% support from people who describe themselves [...]
Tuccille–Is 2008 the year for the Libertarian Party?
I first learned about the libertarian movement as a teenager in 1973 by picking up “It Usually Begins with Ayn Rand” from the stacks in my local public library in Centreville, Virginia. The author, Jerome Tuccille, was recently interviewed by Reason TV, He discusses libertarian icons Ayn Rand and Murray Rothbard. But in the end, he sees [...]
Bad Poll Results? Bad Polling? Or What?
Rasmussen has just issued a troubling Report. Only four percent of likely voters in November are libertarian, and no more than 3% of them are supporting our Libertarian candidate for President, Bob Barr. That is .12% (a bit more than one-tenth of one percent.) In reality, the choices for this poll were Obama and McCain, with Obama [...]
